Guest Guide

    • Pets are not allowed at La Casa Cubo.

    • No Parties.

    • The Apartment check in time is 2pm at the earliest. Check out time is 10am at the latest.

    • The Casita check in time is 3pm at the earliest. Check out time is 11am at the latest.

Check in and out is staggered to allow our housekeeping team enough time to manage both properties. It also provides an additional layer of privacy for you as you are less likely to see other guests.

    • Our indoor and outdoor wood fires should only be used if you know how to light and maintain them safely. On TOTAL FIRE BAN DAYS it is illegal to have open fires in Australia - the fine is $2,200 and up to two years in jail (Aussies take our bushfire prevention very seriously) If the weather is hot or windy do not light fires.

    • Professional Photography or Filming & Hosted Events (elopements/workshops etc) are only allowed by prior arrangement and at an additional cost of AUD $950 per day on top of booking fees and cleaning costs.

  • We have high speed internet available for all guests. It is worth noting though that during high traffic days when the township is extra crowded speeds can slow due to the overuse of the Telstra network.

The wifi and password match and are our house name: La Casa Cubo

  • There are split systems in both accomodations for instant and easy heating and cooling.

The Apartment - split system + indoor wood burning Coonara

The Casita - split system + outdoor fire pit - please read house rules regarding TOTAL FIRE BANS and don’t light the outdoor fire on any days that it is windy, sparks and embers can travel. The firepit should not be left unattended whilst still alight.

We do ask guests to please only use the wood fires if you know how to light and maintain them safely. There is plenty of wood & kindling set out within your accomodation, but if you happen to run out the master woodpile is at the front of the house.

  • We provide a UE Boom speaker, to connect search for ‘WONDERBOOM’. Depending on whether you have connected to this type of speaker before, it may also have a number in your bluetooth connection list.

  • The Casita has 2 Electric Hotplates | a Microwave + Air-fryer combination | Kettle | Toaster | Pots | Fry Pans | Utensils | Glassware | Cutlery

The Apartment has Double Oven | 4 Burner Induction Cooktop | Microwave | Kettle | Toaster | Pots | Fry Pans | Pyrex Baking Trays |Utensils | Glassware | Cutlery

Both spaces have quality pantry basics like olive oil, vinegar, tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper provided for your use. When shopping for groceries and provisions Torquay has lots of options…

    • Saturday Farmers Market

    • Morta Deli

    • Peachs

    • Dusty's Bulk Foods

    • IGA, Aldi, Coles & Woolworths

    • Corks Crew Cellars

  • My go-to spots in town to eat out are…

    • Yummy Breakfast - Pond

    • Filling Lunch - Morta Deli

    • Date Vibes - The Kyn

    • Chill Out & People Watch - Pholklore

    • Comfort Food - Sober Ramen

Torquay is FULL of great dining options and the above is just my short list of faves. We are only one hour from Melbourne (the heart of Australia’s dining and cafe scene) and that culture brings lots of incredible options to our town, you will defintiely eat well while you are staying in Torquay.

    1. Staying in. Obviously.

    2. Summer or winter, immersing your body in the ocean feels AMAZING. We have books for you to read during winter stays about the benefits of cold water swimming - and being able to to the beach without getting in the car is the best. Realistically the ocean temp in Torquay ranges from between 12-14 degress in winter to 16-19 degrees in late summer. If you have booked into the Casita for your stay then a must do is to rinse off in the garden under the hot outdoor shower post swim - it’s amazing.

    3. Making the most of Torquays dining scene. New restaurants are always popping up but my favourites are The Kyn, Pholklore & Morta Deli.

    4. Get out into nature and walk. From our place you can literally follow walking and biking tracks all the way through to Aireys Inlet and even beyond. Hiking in and around the Ironbark Basin at Point Addis and from Red Rocks to Anglesea and back are some of my favourite ways to spend a few hours connecting with and absorbing this incredible ochre cliff and beautiful bush landscape. Our beaches are gorgeous to walk on and if you’re a dog lover you will be in heaven as Torquay has the highest dog ownership in the country and they are all beach dogs!

    5. Grabbing a picnic, some sundowners or fish and chips and park in the end carpark on Point Danger. When you arrive look for a pathway on the left hand side of the carpark heading towards the water…to the right you will find a hidden picnic table, sheltered from the southerly winds that gives a perfect view of cosy corner and the whole foreshore as the sun goes down. It’s a secret spot we meet friends for picnics and one to keep to yourself ;)

    6. Catching sunrise on the beach.

    7. Yoga in the dome. We provide mats and wraps for you to privately practice on site if you are booked into the Casita for your stay.

    8. Water therapy - Visiting About Time Bathhouse, or the carving out time to enjoy the magnificent jetted round bath of the Apartment, soaking your body in hot water is enormously therapeutic.

    9. Visit the iconic Bells Beach to view the locals put on a show. The surfing talent in Torquay is increadible and driving out to Bells to watch the power of the ocean being matched by the skill of the surfers out there is amazing.

    10. Do a day trip to Aireys Inlet Lighthouse, walk along the clifs towards Sunnymeade then have lunch either at the Aireys Pub (good Australian fare) or Al A Greque (delicious medditeranean).

  • PROPERTY - La Casa Cubo has two accomodation spaces - The Garden Casita + The Sunshine Apartment. Both are separate from each other and you will never see the other guests unless entering or exiting the property at the same time.

BINS - We have a delightful ‘bin kid’ called Harry. He comes on Thursday afternoons with one of his parents and puts the appropriate council bins out, then returns on Friday arvo and brings them back in. You may hear the wheelie bins on the gravel pathway, but he is well versed in doing this job and won’t intrude at all on your personal space.

ANTS - When big rains or storms are coming - they will sometimes decide that inside the Casita is better than being outside - we have Antrid and aerosol pest spray under the sink if they show up and you need to use it. Whilst we have Surfcoast Pest Control come every 3 months to spray sometimes they can miss the memo that they are not wanted and and still come inside - please let us know if they do.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY - We have provided things like large baths and instant heating and cooling for your enjoyment. Please consider Australia’s beautiful natural environment in your consumption of the resources that these items use. For instance, filling the bath to the brim every day of your stay will not be kind to our water catchments or the carbon footprint we create by the instant gas we use. Please very much enjoy the baths but try not to be wasteful or excessive in your usage. The same with the heating and air-conditioning, switch them off if leaving the property or going to bed vs leaving them running all day and night.

  • La Casa Cubo is the hand crafted Torquay home of us, Libby and Anna.

Back in 2020 (remember that delightful time in history?) we were told by Anna’s mum about an aged 80’s brick that was up for sale just around the corner from us. It had once been very loved but had become wildly overgrown, full lace curtains and velvet drapes, vintage interiors and threadbare carpets where decades of love had been lived. She sang a siren song of promises to us, incredibly close to the sand, with lots of sunshine all day for the plants - and for us.

We both instantly could see the sublime and enchanting world we would be able to create for ourselves here by the water in ‘the cube house’ as our friends immediately began calling her. At a time when the world was coming apart at the seams channeling our energy into putting this place together was a balm and an escape. An energy that has stayed for all the others who want to be by the sea, to focus on the simple and beautiful and wholesome parts of our world for a while like love and food and sunshine.

Our friends would describe us as a creative, adventurous, nature loving combination - we keenly understand the delight and awe of living in and experiencing places that are beautiful and different as well as a garden’s joyful effect on our nervous systems and mood.

Intentionally crafted to nurture and inspire, using sustainable and often recycled materials, items collected through our lifetimes and special things splurged on for comfort, we want guests to feel like they lack for nothing and are immediately at home when they arrive.

Whether you are a lifelong friend of ours coming to stay or someone who ‘instant books’ at the last minute online, we want the experience to be equal. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome here in our sweet cube house home.

  • In the case of an emergency requiring Police, Fire or Ambulance please call 000 first.

    Libby can be reached on +61 400 592 752

  • We have designed the property around privacy. Our intention was for you to hopefully spend your entire stay being unsure whether there are guests in our other space. Obviously seeing a light on of an evening gives this away but unless you pass on the front garden pathways you should not come across the other guests and all feedback has been that the accomodation has been wonderfully private.

You are in a suburb, neighbours are just over fences so you may hear children playing and dogs barking in the neighbourhood but we find the overwhelming soundtrack to time spent outdoors on the deck or in the garden is bird song.
